As the second Concert of 2023, we present, direct from the Celtic Connections
Festival in Glasgow, the outstanding Singer Songwriter, Will Varley. Originally
from Deal in Kent, and a worthy English heir to the songwriting tradition of
Dylan and Springsteen, Will Varley will appear at Montrose Playhouse as the
second part of our “Celtic Connections almost by your own Fireside” festival, in
a special one-off Monday evening Concert. This will be immediately after his
Gig at the Drygate Brewery in Glasgow on the final night of the 2023 Celtic
Although Will Varley has come a long way, since his early days busking around
on the London Underground, his brilliant songwriting, which includes classics,
such as “King for a King” and “Weddings and Wars”, is still scandalously under
the radar. Nevertheless, his song, “Seize The Night”, has clocked up fast
approaching five million streams on Spotify. The Album tour for his fifth Studio
release, just before Covid struck, concluded with a triumphant sold-out show
at London’s legendary Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
Will Varley’s songs marry vivid imagery, politics, emotion and surrealism in a
way, which is remarkable. He is a true artist and poet; a source of truth in a
world gone mad. This is a once only opportunity to hear in Angus one of the
great English Songwriters.
Admission is £12, payable at the Door, or tickets can be reserved by emailing
